Skabar Pleased About Funding For Local Seniors Programs
March 22, 2010

(Amherst, NS) -- NDP MLA Brian Skabar is pleased two local organizations have been awarded provincial grants for projects to help support seniors. The Sexual Health Centre for Cumberland County received a $6,196 Positive Aging Grant to promote sexual health amongst seniors. The Town of Amherst received a $5,000 Age Friendly Communities Grant to construct walking paths, install game tables, provide outdoor exercise units and upgrade landscaping at the Amherst Rotary Centennial Park.

“I want to thank Minister Peterson-Rafuse for making this investment in seniors,” says Skabar. “These projects will help make services more accessible to seniors in our community and help promote a healthy lifestyle.”

Earlier today it was announced that 75 seniors projects that promote safety, age-friendly thinking, and opportunities for positive aging received a total of $700,000 from three different grant programs. A complete list is available on-line at www.gov.ns.ca/seniors
