March 22, 2010
Truro, NS) -- NDP MLA Lenore Zann is happy two local organizations that provide support for seniors have been awarded provincial Positive Aging Grants.
The Colchester East Hants Hospice Society based in Truro received $10,000 to provide rural end of life and grief support for seniors in Colchester and East Hants. The Glooscap Heritage Centre received $10,000 for a series of workshops in which elders of Mi’kma’ki will share their stories through the traditional story circle format.
“Seniors have a broad set of needs which this funding addresses,” says Zann. “It will not only help bring comfort to people in their time of need but also help Mi’kmaw elders share their unique history and culture with the community as a whole.”
Earlier today Premier Dexter announced that 75 seniors projects that promote safety, age-friendly thinking, and opportunities for positive aging received a total of $700,000 from three different grant programs. A complete list is available at www.gov.ns.ca/seniors
