Boudreau Congratulates Two Local Students for Making a Positive Difference
June 3, 2010
(Canso, NS) – NDP MLA Jim Boudreau was on hand today as two local students were awarded the Premier’s Power of Positive Change Award . The students were Mallory Borden, a grade 11 student at the Chedabucto Education Centre-Guysborough Academy in Guysborough, and Cassandra DeWolfe, a Grade 6 student at Lakefront Consolidated School in Tangier.
Mallory is the co-chair of the African Nova Scotian Youth Group at Chedabucto Place. She is also the vice-chair of the teen health centre committee. Mallory is involved with the Gay Straight Alliance Group and several other school committees.
Cassandra was instrumental in raising money for earthquake survivors in Haiti. She organized fund-raising events in her rural community. Cassandra educated and mobilized her community school of 32 students.
“These two young people have shown tremendous leadership and these awards are well deserved,” says Boudreau. “Our society, and the world will become a better place thanks to their efforts.”
There were 12 recipients of the 2010 awards, which were selected from about 80 nominations. The recipients received a certificate of recognition and a $2,000 bursary toward post-secondary education or training.
