(Canso, NS) - NDP MLA Jim Boudreau is pleased that the province has made several investments in sport and recreation facilities in his area of Guysborough-Sheet Harbour.

The Seashore Volunteer Fire Department received $100,000 from the Department of Health Promotion and Protection to construct a community centre at Port Bickerton.

"Volunteer fire departments help keep our communities strong, especially in rural Nova Scotia," said Boudreau. "This multi-purpose facility will be used by many for events and gatherings and is a welcome addition to the area."

Fanning Education Centre and the Canso Curling Club also received grants for facility upgrades and construction.

The funding was announced as part of government's Recreation Facility Development Program. The program assists community groups, municipalities and other not-for-profit organizations develop facilities to increase public participation in sport and physical recreation.
