May 14, 2010

(Liverpool, NS) – NDP MLA Vicki Conrad welcomes the news that the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute has received $5,000 from the Department of Natural Resources’ Habitat Conservation Fund.

The funding will be used to gain a better understand how flying squirrels interact with their habitats here in Nova Scotia.

“I’m pleased funding is being provided to examine this fascinating creature,” says Conrad. “The flying squirrel has a unique relationship to the landscape of our province and this research will provide needed insight into how human behaviour influences their population.”

Fifteen projects will be supported with more than $200,000 from the fund, which is financed by the $3 wildlife habitat stamp on all hunting licences sold in Nova Scotia.
