(Halifax, NS) – Halifax Chebucto MLA Howard Epstein is pleased the Halifax Alta Gymnastics Club received the $22,000 needed to build a gymnastics landing pit at their Bayers Road facility.

"Nova Scotia gymnasts brought home 10 medals at the Canadian championships this past May,” said Epstein. “Amateur athletes and parents enrolling their children in a non-competitive program all benefit from this kind of community-building funding. This is the right decision for Nova Scotia families.”

“Every serious gym needs a landing pit,” Epstein added. “When gymnasts learn new skills, from tumbling to dismounts, they will know they have a landing area that provides extra safety to prevent injury.”

The funding was announced as part of government’s Recreation Facility Development Program. The program assists community groups, municipalities and other not-for-profit organizations develop facilities to increase public participation in sport and physical recreation.
