New Community Homes Will Make Life Better for People With Disabilities
July 2, 2010
(Westville, NS) -- NDP MLA Clarrie MacKinnon welcomes the news that three new community homes will be opened in Riverton, which he says will make life better for people with disabilities in Pictou County.
The three facilities will each be home to eight individuals. The residents will live together but each will have their own private bedroom. The homes have been named Evergreen Ridge, Brook Haven, and Sky View and are located on the Riverview Homes property.
“This issue has been a priority of mine since first being elected in 2006,” says MacKinnon. “These homes will provide residents with increased independence and a family living environment while addressing their specific needs. This will make their lives better by giving them more opportunities to socialize and become involved in the community.”
The three community homes are in the first phase of a $22-million renovation project funded by the Department of Community Services. Residents are expected to move in this summer.
