Birdsall Applauds Decision to Award Bluenose II Contract to Local Bidder

(Lunenburg, NS) – NDP MLA Pam Birdsall is pleased the Province of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada have decided to award the $14 million Bluenose II construction contract to the Lunenburg Shipyard Alliance.
The restoration work will take place on the Lunenburg waterfront at Lunenburg Industrial Foundry’s facilities. As part of the contract, shipbuilding infrastructure worth $1.5 million will be added to the waterfront as a lasting benefit for Lunenburg.
“The Bluenose is an important part of our province’s heritage and a great source of pride for the people of Lunenburg,” said Birdsall. “It has been a catalyst for tourism and job creation in our community for generations - a trend that will continue because of this project.”
The Bluenose II construction is part of a $14.6 million project announced by the provincial and federal governments in May 2009.The Lunenburg Shipyard Alliance includes Covey Island Boatworks and Lunenburg Industrial Foundry and Engineering and Snyder’s Shipyard Limited of Daysprings, Lunenburg Co.
