Gordie Gosse is a life long resident of Whitney Pier. In 2003 he became the NDP MLA for Cape Breton Nova. He was re-elected in 2006 and again in 2009.
Gordie is a third generation steel worker who worked in the industry for 18 years. Like many others, he has been forced to make career changes and became the Executive Director of the Whitney Pier Youth Club. Gordie loved working with youth of his community, but was also involved in many other activities. He sat on the Whitney Pier Memorial Junior High School Advisory Council and the Youth Resource Association.
Gordie has also sat on the Health Studies Working Group (J.A.G.), the Community Health and Safety Advisory Committee, and the Board of Directors of the YMCA. As a testament to his unwavering community involvement, Gordie was voted the 1998 Kinsmen Citizen of the Year and recently was recognized for outstanding dedication to Children and Families by the Children's Aid Society.
Gordie has an ongoing concern for health care in his community, as well as the employment concerns that play such a powerful role in this area.
He resides with his partner Susan King and their son Daniel in Whitney Pier. His adult son Gordie lives in Halifax. |
